Between blue and green

Between Blue & Green.

The Cantabric Cornice is the Spanish border with the Atlantic Ocean. Green and blue are the colors of this land. The ocean and the mountains are always present and always in sight. The Picos de Europa National Park is the first thing that sailors see when they glimpse the Iberian Peninsula from the North. It contains areas of infinite beauty and spotless wilderness.

ASTURIAS

El Naranjo de Bulnes is our own little Yosemite Valley. A place where you can climb, walk, and enjoy the food and customs of the small villages scattered through its narrow valleys, while being perfectly integrated in nature. Down in the valley, the rivers enable us to navigate through the larger towns until we reach the coast, where there are beaches and coves abound. It is easy to mistake the landscapes for the Caribbean islands or New Zealand, brimmed with ferns, transparent waters, cliffs, caves and sand dunes. The ocean governs our senses and our perspective.

Refuge of the European bear and of those who also seek a quiet life in nature, this area is being discovered by more and more people from all over the world.  Traditional fishermen mingle with surfers, kayakers and sailors, making it a favourite of the Spanish in recent times; yet it still maintains plenty of secrets to discover.

Hike along the cliff coast line or try a sea kayak to experience an entirely different POV of the coast. Pedal into offbeat roads among green meadows. Learn how to cook a “fabada”, the amazing local stew in our evening cookery classes, try yoga & surf lessons, hike to the lakes of Picos de Europa National Park, and visit the region’s cider cellars and cheese caves.
